7 Aspects You Need to Know Before Lighting Living Room

The living room is the place where a family gathers and spends most of the time together by working on daily activities, entertainment, and entertaining guests. Therefore, it is important to choose the right type of lighting to be practical and also to appear brighter, lively and aesthetic. 1.Space Planning

While lighting the room, design aspects such as Space planning, placement of furniture, flooring and its pattern, ceiling design, wall colour, finishes, fabrics, locations of windows, doors, wall décor contemplates the aesthetical and functional details.

It is advisable to plan the lighting design at the time of space planning itself so the electrical wiring is in place accordingly.

Artificial lighting is essential when there is no natural lighting, for safety and security reasons, practical needs and decorative effect. A careful selection of fixtures provides sufficient brightness so that no corner is left dark.

Lights/fixtures should be energy-efficient, long-lasting with little maintenance.

Placement of lights depends on space planning and placement of furniture.

If ample floor space is there, then floor lamps also work in a great way. Fixed, recessed, hanging lights, task lights -a combination of lights and their placements breaks the monotony and provide ample illumination.

Hanging Lights: Use Pendant lights or chandeliers as they appear elegant, create emphasis, act as focal points and are decorative creating beautiful lighting displays.

Ceiling Lights: Ceiling lights provide general lighting. Recessed lighting is a good option if the ceiling height is low. In addition to the ceiling lights, cones add up extra brightness to the room and also create an inviting atmosphere.

4.Fixture-Power and Features

Various aspects such as the wattage required, colour temperature, intensity and other additional features with respect to choosing lamps.

Lighting features: The brightness required and user requirement depends on the features like dimmable/motion sensor/adjustable hanging length,etc.

Also, consider the colour/finish of the fixture, the colour of light it emits and reflects on the wall for beautiful and striking patterns on the walls.

5.Size of Light Fixtures

The size and shape of the fixture depend on the size of the room, and furniture. The hanging from the ceiling should not to too lengthy to touch heads while seating or too low to lack brightness.

The size, scale and shape of the fixture to be complemented with the shape of furniture; seating /dining table.

6.Fixture Material

Another essential point considered is the fixture material. There are different types of fixtures available and most of them are made with a combination of contrasting materials.

Different materials create distinct effects, mood and vibe to the room. For instance, glass captures the light and diffuse light creating beautiful patterns on the walls whereas metal offers neutral styling creating a simple, elegant, industrial look.

A combination of varied materials creates an even more sophisticated and aesthetic appeal.

7.Design and Style

The interior decor style of the living room(lighting aspect) depends mainly on the design and style of lamps. There are various types of styles available to suit different styles of the room.

Many of the lamp design styles complement two or more indoor décor styles of the room. For ex., If a rustic style lamp is chosen then it can be suited to farmhouse, bohemian, cottage styles too!
