1.Natural Stone

Available in various colors and styles which vary from traditional to contemporary, country to rustic style.

Distinct stones can be used such as Quartz, Marble, Granite, Slate, Caesar.

Thickness varies from 20-30mm

PROS

  • Strong and durable
  • Natural and hard-wearing material
  • Scratch and heat resistant
  • Can be replaced with same colour and material.
  • Water-resistant and easy to clean.

CONS:

  • Other than quartz, stone needs to be sealed properly
  • To be installed by a professional
  • Few types are very expensive
  • Mostly suitable for the traditional, country or rustic design style.

2.Glass

Available as solid glass, glass tile, mosaic tile, etc.,

  • Easy to clean

CONS:

  • Expensive to purchase and install
  • Scratch easily

3.Tile

Ceramic, Porcelain

PROS:

  • Affordable
  • Lightweight and easy to install
  • Water and heat resistant
  • Available in a wide range of patterns
  • Easy to clean

CONS:

  • Less luxury product
  • Require skilled labour for proper installation

4.Laminate

Suitable for ultra-modern Euro-style kitchens

Laminate is available in sheets.

Various colors and finishes are suitable depending on the type of style and function.

Some look like real wood or stone.

Thickness common is 3/8”

PROS:

  • Affordable
  • Water-resistant
  • Easy to clean
  • Scratch-free

CONS:

  • Not suitable behind the hob
  • Need professional installation

5.Stainless Steel

Suitable for contemporary, industrial and modern type décor.

PROS:

  • Durable and last long
  • Easy to clean
  • Resistant to high temperatures
  • Resistant to humidity
  • Absorbs and reflects light

CONS:

  • Expensive
  • Easily dented if not maintained properly
