The metropolitan arena, known as the technology hub, is perfect for city residents and is home to the tourism industry. The dwelling lies in the center of the urban residential area near the Golf course extension road. Nestled in the shade of soft trees, and lush greenery, with Indigenous Architecture – in the financial hub of Gurgaon in Delhi–lies the house with 49 trees of Dr. Vivek Khanna and the Khanna family designed by Renesa Architects.

The house draws us to the movement of a puzzle, which appears to be weaved along with trees with a combination of diverse materials – concrete and red sandstone that gives an enhanced manifestation.

The Designers and their Philosophy

Renesa Architecture Design Interiors Studio has acquired the opportunity to design a residence that evolves with the encircling greenery. “Let Nature influence your lives,” says Ar. Sanchit Arora. The studio’s approach was to create imagery where architecture takes root in a site, and the site makes the architecture real.

The client’s desire was to retain the existing trees, so the designers proceeded without causing the trees to fall. The designer’s philosophy was to work with nature, for nature, and in close connection with nature.

Exteriors – Building Footprint Unfolds

The 7500 sq. ft trapezoidal site has existing trees covered with greens, and they build the house with two street-facing elevations.

The house unfolds and blossoms with trees at the periphery, thus providing a serene ambiance and creating a microclimate for itself.

The building footprint dictated by these trees consequently carves into flattering angles and gives easy access to entering the building.

A quiet pathway leads you into the living room that expands the interiors with the outdoors.

When you enter the building, a floor plate invites you to large rooms and wedge-shaped annexes that create compelling spaces.

The living, dining, family lounge, and bedroom areas open into the pool area where you visualize the greens exquisitely integrating with the surrounding environment.

When you enter the upper floor, they cantilever spaces for the balconies to protrude from the custom rooms overlooking the splash pool and a small water cascade clad in Redstone.

While using the splash, you can enjoy glancing over the sky while remaining connected to nature and feeling a cold, serene breeze.

The textured terraces, balconies, and facades of sandstone floating walls–all together scale up the built structure in addition to the greens.

Innate Interiors

The play of distinct materials, textures, and colors–the whites, reds, and grays gives you a sophisticated feel of interiors.

The amalgamation of tonal variations of stone, shades of selected colors, and a combination of metal and upholstered furniture create a sense of splendor, tranquility, and elegance.

Materials and the Space

The use of red sandstone draws your memory back to the historical forts of Delhi and Agra, where the natural material was used extensively and carved intricately on the facades.

A sense of tranquility prevails when you have a glimpse of the facade with the presence of red sandstone overlapping concrete walls. It enhances the façade and also acts as an insulation barrier that reduces heat gain to maintain room temperature.

The dwelling acts as a medium connecting rough concrete and sandstone with existing soft trees that create a sense of drama framing pleasant views. They recreated marvelously a natural landscape with the existing shade-providing trees that complement outdoors and indoors.

The design, construction, and use of local materials and resources present the house with Indigenous Architecture.
